how do you paint with the black? it always smudges or mixes with the other colours it always manages to sneak under the paper when i put a border like tape

Jasmine K

Monday 21st of June 2021

Hi Emily, Black can be challenging to work with sometimes since it's such a strong pigment. I would make sure the other colors are completely dry before adding the black, so that it doesn't mix with the other colors. As for the tape, I get some paint runs under my tape also. All I do is paint over the black with a thick coat of white. Hope that helps! Cheers, Jasmine

Hi, Enjoyed your ideas. What is the best resource you have found for large canvases? They are so expensive!

Thank you

Jasmine K

Wednesday 31st of March 2021

Hi Joanne, In terms of buying large canvases you could wait for sales at craft stores, or even look at second hand stores/thrift stores for old paintings that are on canvas and apply gesso to reuse it like a blank canvas. In terms of ideas, if you don't already have a project in mind then abstract art can be a great starter painting on a large canvas. You can look into mixed media techniques to collages and add different textures to the acrylics onto your canvas. Here are some abstract ideas that I've make that are primarily on large canvases . Hope that helps, enjoy & have fun with it!

Cheers, Jasmine
